Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By downloading, installing, or using the SmartScan application ("App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use SmartScan on devices you own or control, solely for your own personal, non-commercial use.

3. Subscriptions & billing

  • SmartScan Pro is offered as a monthly (₹25) or annual (₹139) subscription. A 7-day free trial is available for new users.
  • Payment is charged to your Google Play or Apple App Store account.
  • Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal.
  • You can cancel at any time via Google Play → Subscriptions or App Store → Subscriptions. Access continues until the end of the current billing period.
  • Refunds are handled by the relevant app store per their policies.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for unlawful, fraudulent, or abusive purposes.
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract our source code, except where allowed by law.
  • Use the App to store data that does not belong to you or that you are not authorised to store.
  • Interfere with, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service.

5. Your responsibilities & disclaimer

  • SmartScan stores card data locally on your device. You are responsible for keeping your device, PIN, and backup passphrase safe.
  • You are responsible for taking your own backups. We cannot recover data from a lost or wiped device without your backup and passphrase.
  • SmartScan is not a bank and does not process payments. UPI payments happen in third-party apps (GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, etc.), which are subject to their own terms.
  • Card scanning, OCR, and autofill are convenience features; you are responsible for verifying the accuracy of any details before use.

6. Third-party services

SmartScan uses third-party services including Google Firebase, Google Drive, Google AdMob, Google ML Kit and Resend. Your use of features that rely on these services is subject to their respective terms.

7. Intellectual property

SmartScan and all related trademarks, logos, and content are owned by us or our licensors. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you except the limited license in Section 2.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SmartScan and its affiliates are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising out of or related to your use of the App. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or ₹1,000, whichever is greater. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Termination

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts in Bengaluru, Karnataka shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes, subject to any mandatory consumer protection laws in your place of residence.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified in-app or by email. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
